Seamus Martin is an Irish molecular biologist and immunologist, currently serving as the Smurfit Chair of Medical Genetics at Trinity College Dublin. His research focuses on the links between programmed cell death, cell stress, and inflammation. Martin has received numerous accolades, including the 'GlaxoSmithKline Award' of the Biochemical Society in 2006 and the 'RDS-Irish Times Boyle Medal' in 2014. He has been elected to the Royal Irish Academy, the European Molecular Biology Organisation, and the Academia Europaea. Martin is also an author of the 11th, 12th, and 13th editions of the textbook 'Essential Immunology' and has served as Editor-in-Chief of The FEBS Journal since 2014. His laboratory research has been supported by an ERC Advanced grant and an Irish Research Council Advanced Laureate Award.
