CasimiroSandra
Sandra Casimiro obtained a PhD in Molecular Biology from Universidade de Lisboa in 2007, having developed a differential display strategy for high-throughput EST analysis in host-pathogen interactions. During the postdoctoral fellowship at Instituto de Medicina Molecular from 2007 to 2013, received the Oncology Research Award from the Terry Fox Foundation/LPCC and an EMBO Fellowship to further develop her skills in murine models of bone metastasis. Research during this period led to significant findings, including the first characterization of a bone metastasis gene signature and deciphering the role of the RANK pathway in breast cancer. Currently serving as a Senior Scientist at GIMM with a research focus on targeting the RANK pathway in breast cancer. This work has been supported by several prestigious grants, such as a highly competitive FCT grant, the Pfizer Global Medical Grant for Metastatic Breast Cancer and the Oncology Research Award. Research contributions include 51 publications in peer review journals, including 9 as the first author and 5 as the senior author. Has an h-index of 18 with over 1,100 citations. In addition to research, has a strong record of mentorship, supervising 2 PhD students, 30 MSc students, and 21 undergraduate students since 2007. Participates in collaborations with both academic institutions and industry partners, and serves as a reviewer for several grant agencies and scientific journals. Also holds an academic position as an Invited Assistant Professor of Oncobiology at Lisbon Medical School and is actively involved in various institutional committees and educational programs.
