The tumor microenvironment (TME) is a complex and dynamic network of cancer, immune, and stromal cells, blood vessels and extracellular matrix that shapes tumor progression, metastasis, and treatment response. In particular, crosstalk between tumor cells and immune cells plays a key immunosuppressive role that can have profound impact into tumor immune evasion and treatment success. This symposium will showcase how researchers use spatial biology to advance understanding the TME. Talks will highlight scRNA-seq and spatial proteomics uncovering a novel immunosuppressive fibroblast subtype, as well as an innovative approach combining spatial biology with laser microdissection and mass spectrometry to reveal a macrophage barrier-hindering T cell infiltration.
