Wilfred van IJcken is senior technical sales specialist at Element Biosciences. His background is in genomics, next generation sequencing, spatial multi-omics, epigenetics, imaging and cell biology. He joined Element Biosciences in January 2025 and his role as senior TSS involves technical client support for existing and new applications and business development.
Prior to this, he was 23 years Head of the Genomics Core Facility and Principal Investigator at the department of Cell Biology both at the Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. He is also co-founder of the startup company Methylomics B.V., which exploits a newly developed sensitive and cost-effective methylation sequencing technology to detect biomarkers for cancer. He was awarded a PhD in 2001 at the Wageningen University in The Netherlands in the field of Virology. He started his career by studying Molecular Sciences at the Wageningen University and Research Center. Over his career, he has made important contributions to fundamental science as well as clinical diagnostics and has published close to 300 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals.
